Indeed Application Tips (2026)

How Indeed Apply works, the daily cap most people do not know about, and what actually gets your resume found.

By Haseeb Kamran, Founder of VeloApply, 8+ years in recruiting · Updated July 24, 2026 · 9 min read

Quick answer: Indeed has two application paths. Indeed Apply completes the application on Indeed using your profile or an uploaded resume. Other listings redirect you to the employer's own site. Indeed states that it may limit how many applications you submit per day. The highest-leverage work on Indeed is not applying faster, it is making your resume searchable, because employers also search the resume database directly.

How does applying on Indeed actually work?

Indeed handles two different application types, and knowing which one you are in changes what you should do.

Applications completed on Indeed. You click Apply now and the application opens on Indeed itself. You apply using either your Indeed profile or an uploaded resume file, and you may be asked to verify your phone number. Some employers add screening questions here.

Applications that redirect. The listing sends you to the employer's own career site, where you complete their full form in whatever system they use.

Indeed's Applying for a Job documentation covers both paths, including how cover letters are handled and how to save a partially completed application and return to it.

That save-and-continue feature is genuinely useful and almost nobody uses it. If a long application appears, you do not have to abandon it or rush it.

Does Indeed limit how many jobs you can apply to?

Yes, and Indeed states this plainly in its own documentation rather than leaving it to guesswork.

The Indeed Job Seeker Guidelines say that Indeed may limit the number of job applications you submit each day, that this keeps the platform fair and running well, and that you will be told when you have reached your daily limit.

Indeed does not publish a specific number, and the practical limit appears to vary. The important part is that the cap exists and is deliberate.

The same document also notes that Indeed may hide resumes that do not meet its quality standards. That is worth reading twice. A resume that is thin, incomplete or poorly formatted can stop surfacing in employer searches without any notification that it has happened.

LinkedIn has made the same move on its Easy Apply flow. Both major platforms are now actively slowing down high-volume applying, which tells you where the industry is heading.

How do you make your Indeed resume get found?

This is the part of Indeed that most job seekers ignore, and it is where the leverage is.

Indeed is not only a place where you apply to employers. Employers search its resume database and contact people directly. That means a well-built resume on Indeed can generate inbound interest with no applications sent at all.

Use standard job titles

Employers search the words they know. If your title was "Growth Ninja" and the industry term is "Marketing Manager", you will not appear in the search that matters. Use the recognisable title, and keep the internal one alongside it if you want.

Complete every section

Partial resumes rank poorly and, per Indeed's own guidelines, can be hidden entirely for quality reasons. Fill in work history, education, and skills properly.

Put skills in plain terms

List the tools and skills exactly as they are commonly written. Both the search index and the recruiter reading results depend on this.

Keep the formatting simple

The same rules that apply to any applicant tracking system apply here. Single column, standard headings, no tables or graphics. Our guide on ATS resume format covers the full formatting rules.

Indeed Apply compared to the company site

Factor Apply on Indeed Redirect to employer site
SpeedFast, uses your profile or saved resumeSlower, full form each time
TrackingAppears in My Jobs automaticallyYou track it yourself
TailoringLimitedFull control
Screening questionsShort, if anyOften long and detailed
Daily capYesNo

If the redirect takes you to a long form, that is usually a sign the employer is filtering for effort. Those roles tend to have fewer, more serious applicants.

How do you track your Indeed applications?

Indeed has a tracking system built in that most people never touch.

The My Jobs section holds your applications. You can update the status of each one to interviewing, offer received, hired, not selected, or no longer interested. You can also view application details and withdraw an application if you change your mind.

Three things worth knowing before you rely on it:

If you are applying across Indeed, LinkedIn and company career sites at the same time, no single platform sees the whole picture. That is the case for keeping your own tracker, which is why we built an application tracker.

Mistakes that get Indeed applications ignored

Frequently asked questions

How many jobs can you apply to on Indeed in one day?

Indeed does not publish a specific number, but its Job Seeker Guidelines state that it may limit the number of applications you submit each day and will notify you when you reach that limit. The stated reason is keeping the platform fair and running well.

Why can employers not find my resume on Indeed?

The most common causes are an incomplete resume, non-standard job titles that do not match what employers search for, or a resume that has been hidden for quality reasons. Indeed states it may hide resumes that do not meet its quality standards, and this happens without a notification.

Is Indeed Apply better than applying on the company website?

Indeed Apply is faster and tracks automatically in My Jobs. The company site gives you full control over your resume, cover letter and answers. For roles you genuinely want, the company site is usually worth the extra time. For a quick attempt at a reasonable fit, Indeed Apply is fine.

Can you withdraw an application on Indeed?

Yes, for jobs posted on Indeed by employers using its hiring system. Open My Jobs, find the application, and use the manage menu to withdraw. Note that you may not be able to reapply afterwards, and the employer may still contact you.

Why are some of my Indeed applications missing from My Jobs?

Applications submitted on a different website, applications linked to a different Indeed account or email address, and applications older than six months will not appear in the list.

Should I upload a resume file or use my Indeed profile?

A resume file gives you more control over formatting and lets you tailor it per role. Your Indeed profile is faster and feeds the searchable database employers use. Doing both is reasonable: keep the profile complete for discovery, and upload tailored files for roles you care about.
